Travel Information
Getting to Lisbon
Lisbon can be reached by air with direct flights from most European cities as well as from the Coast of US /(e.g. Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington) and the airport is conveniently located inside the city. It is served by a Subway station with a direct line to the city centre. The 'Aeroporto – Saldanha' line takes you to downtown Lisbon in about 20 minutes. The Metro network will allow you to move around the city at ease (https://www.metrolisboa.pt/en/travel/).
Getting around
There are also city buses that stop near the airport arrivals terminal (http://www.carris.pt/). Only luggage with a maximum size of 50x40x20cm is allowed on city buses. If you plan to use public transportation while in Lisbon we recommend you purchase the '7 Colinas' / 'Viva Viagem' electronic travel card, which you can then top up with balance for your journeys, and which can be used both for the Metro, and for Carris (buses) (7 Colinas / Viva Viagem electronic card: €0.50; Single Fare Price: €1.80).
Taxis or online reservation platforms (Bolt and Uber) are also a rather affordable transportation option, even with the luggage fees that may be charged separately by the driver (for taxi only). Depending on traffic, the journey to the city centre is quick, costing between 10 and 15 euros. If you choose to take a taxi make sure the meter is turned on at the beginning of the journey and always ask for a receipt/invoice. There are Taxi stands outside the departures and arrivals terminals. At Lisbon Airport, there is a dedicated pick-up area for online reservation platforms (Bolt and Uber) located on P2, Level 2, arrivals level.
